CLASSIFICATION

Para Powerlifting is open to the athletes with a physical impairment. Athletes are required to submit medical reports and meet the minimum impairment criteria in order to compete. Eligibility is determined by trained Classifiers.

Athletes who have been nationally or internationally classified as per World Para Powerlifting’s Classification Rules or Paralympics Australia’s Classification Policy are automatically included in the Para Powerlifting Masterlist for Para Powerlifting in Australia.

Para Powerlifting is the ultimate test of upper body strength. Bench press is currently the only Para-powerlifting discipline contested at the Paralympic Games. Para Powerlifting is open to the athletes with a physical impairment. They compete in men’s or women’s events by weight classes. Athletes are given three attempts and the winner is the competitor who lifts the highest number of kilograms. 2026 Asia-Oceania Para Powerlifting Championships – Selection Policy Released

Para Powerlifting Australia is pleased to announce the release of the Selection Policy for the 2026 Asia-Oceania Para Powerlifting Championships, to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from 7–12 April 2026. Athletes wishing to be considered for selection must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) by 16 February 2026, after reading the full selection criteria and the required Minimum Qualification Standards. 2026 Commonwealth Games Nomination Policy

Para Powerlifting Australia and Paralympics Australia are pleased to announce the release of the Para Powerlifting Nomination Policy for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, set to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23 July to 2 August 2026. This will be the fourth Commonwealth Games to be hosted in Scotland, following the 1970 and 1986 games in Edinburgh, and the 2024 Games in Glasgow.
