Beyond Sport Mentoring Program

The Paralympic Australia ‘Beyond Sport’ Mentoring Program is an innovative initiative designed to foster inclusivity and empowerment for Para athletes and Employers across the nation.

This program is built on key foundational pillars including Mentoring/Peer Support, Advocacy, Inclusive Employment and Skills Building, offering a comprehensive support system that embodies Universal Design in practice.

Program Overview

Drawing from the rich experience of a PA’s Mentoring Program and the recent Athlete Employment Program, the ‘Beyond Sport’ program aims to develop a universal co-designed model that facilitates holistic careers and support pathways for both Para athletes and Employers.

This model extends far beyond the sports arena, ensuring that Para athletes receive the necessary support to achieve their goals and pursue their passions throughout their sporting careers and beyond.

Key Features

• Mentoring & Peer Support: Connecting Para athletes with experienced mentors who can provide guidance, support, and inspiration. The Peer Support program aims to build a strong community of peers who can share experiences, offer support, and foster a sense of belonging.
• Advocacy: Empowering participants to advocate for themselves and others, promoting inclusivity and accessibility in all areas of life.
• Inclusive Recruitment: Development of inclusive recruitment tools and resources, working directly with Program Partners to co-design.
• Skills Building & Employment Opportunities: Providing opportunities for Para athletes to develop essential life and career skills that will benefit them both in and out of the sporting world. Building networks to support a meaningful career for all Para athletes.

This program will actively involve and remunerate Para athletes in the co-design and Program delivery process, ensuring your valuable insights and experiences shape the program’s success.
